Friedrich's name is intimately tied to the world of the drawing, but connoted by art. For many, the name of Jan Van Eyck will not say to them too much. But for others, they will be supposed by one of the biggest Flemish artists, whose life and work were defined in the XIVth and XVth centuries. Now, from this blog of Madrid we turn the sight behind to bring to you this exhibition: Jan Van Eyck in the Thyssen.

The exhibition Contexts of the permanent Collection nº 23 can visit in the Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza. The exhibition centers on one of the skills of the Middle Age, as it is the grisaille. To know something more on them, we send ourselves to the Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy of the Spanish Language (RAE), who says that the grisaille is a “painting realized with different tones of gray, white person and black, who imitates sculptural reliefs or recreates architectural spaces”. This skill arose in the XIVth and XVth centuries, principally in the Netherlands, emphasizing Van Eyck like one of the teachers from the grisaille.

This is the starting point of the exhibition, which centers on one of the most important works of Jan Van Eyck: the Diptych of the Announcement. For tante, we will have to be located. We are at the beginning of XVth century, when the Middle Age was following his stamp decayente and dark, walking towards the vision of the man like epicenter of all the things: the Renaissance.
